In collaboration with VML and Child Focus, we created a unique 90 cm tall statue: Little Lady Justice.
The project began with a supplied AI photo, which we turned into a detailed and technically elaborate 3D model: statue, text and pedestal.
This model was carefully designed and broken down into printable components of up to 25 cm for production with our FDM 3D printers, after printing the parts were seamlessly glued to create an even end result.
The statue is not only a technical work of art, but also carries a powerful message for the victims of child abuse, sexual exploitation and abduction.
The statue symbolizes an updated version of the classic Lady Justice. Whereas the original statue shows an adult woman, here a 5-year-old girl is depicted. The blindfold, sword and scales remain, but the young age of the girl emphasizes the vulnerability of the real victims: children. The image calls to mind the seriousness of this global problem and the need for a stricter approach.
The unveiling of Little Lady Justice coincided with the start of the trial of former radio host Sven Pichal, who is being prosecuted for possessing and distributing images of child abuse. This confluence of circumstances inspired VML to send out a powerful message: attention on this day should not only go to a suspect, but should focus on the victims above all.
"A lot of attention on Nov. 18 will go to the trial of Sven Pichal. But that day should mainly revolve around the victims: the children who can be seen in abuse images like that," said Kasper Janssens, creative director of VML.
The statue not only symbolizes justice, but will also play an active role in future campaigns and initiatives. Among other things, it will be placed in front of the European Parliament, where Child Focus and the European Child Sexual Abuse Legislation Advocacy Group (ECLAG) are pushing for stricter European regulations. They are calling for measures that require technology companies to proactively act against child abuse on their platforms, help victims and remove images.
In addition, an online platform was launched: littleladyjustice.be. Here, victims can leave their name and age at the time of the abuse, as a way of giving recognition. The platform also offers referrals to help and counseling through Child Focus' partners.
Little Lady Justice is more than a statue; it is a powerful symbol of hope and justice. It reminds us of the urgent need to protect children's rights and put the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse on the highest agenda - locally, nationally and at the European level.
