Print Details

We compare the minimum layer height for each production technique.

The layer height of the model determines how much detail the final print will retain over the 3D model. A small layer height means that the model can be printed very fine, with a higher layer height you will be able to observe the print lines more and more clearly.

fdm

0.12 mm Layer height

  • Lines remain visible
  • Small details may fall away
  • However, much sturdier than resin

Resin

0.01 mm Layer height

  • Lines are not visible
  • Detailed 4K resolution
  • Not suitable for load

Materials

We look at material variation by production technique.

The range of colors and material is different for each printing technique

fdm

Filament on spool

  • Various material types
  • Wide range of colors
  • Bio compostable

Resin

Running liquid

  • Limited supply
  • Standard colors
  • Not bio-compostable

Production Process

The process differs drastically by printing technique

We compare the minimum layer height for each production technique.

fdm

Post-processing optional

  • Simple material change
  • No additional intermediate steps
  • Equalization possible

Resin

Post-processing necessary

  • Support removal after print
  • Then wash off residue in IPA
  • Cure to close with UV light
